In order to meet the growing demands of electricity, energy got from natural resources like sunlight, wind, waves etc are very important is known. On Thursday 18th January 2018, at the Madras Christian College or MCC farm in Chennai, Mr. Robert Burgress who is US Council general, Chennai spoke about the need to use ‘green energy’ on educational institutes, hospitals etc. It is worthy to note that Robert Burgress launched a 500 KWP solar plant at the MCC farm on Thursday and he grabbed the attention of many there. Planting of the trees also took place at the farm entrance and this was carried out by the guests who came to attend this solar plant opening.
Robert Burgress shared his thoughts during the launch and said green energy projects must be considered as model as they are the future sources of power to meet the huge demands of electricity.
In the year 2016 a solar power plant of 100KWP was launched in MCC farm and amount of Rs 70 crores was spent on it. Now this is the second solar power plant in MCC farm. It is now said that as much as 4500 units of power is being consumed at this college in a single day. About 500 units of power is got from the first solar plant and now this second solar power plant would supply 2500 units of power. Both these solar power plants combine to give 3000 units of power every day.
It must be noted that the solar plant launched now has multi crystalline photo voltaic based solar panels and is spread over an area of three acres. This MCC farm also has transformers, inventers plus operative control units. This project is worth of Rs 5 crores. It is important to mention that this project is funded by USAID-ASHA or United States for International Development- American Schools and Colleges Abroad.
