Palani temple is highly popular temple dedicated to Lord Muruga in the state of Tamil Nadu is well known. Panchamirtham or the prasadam given in this temple is simply superb and people visiting this temple would buy this Prasadam. The preservative property of panchamirtham is high and this has helped this prasadam to be kept for long time periods.

It is now revealed that the prasadam distributed in the temples that are administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, HR & CE, would have shelf life printed on the containers having the prasadam and this would be according to the norms and conditions prescribed by the FSSAI or Food Safety and Standard Authority of India.

This popular temple of Lord Muruga would be the first temple in TN that would distribute prasadams with expiry date. This was later confirmed by HR & CE officials.

It is worthy to note that in order to determine the shelf life of the panchamirtham prasadam it has been sent to food safety authority and they would issue a license to the prasadam. Once this license is got the date of expiry would be printed on the containers that are supplied at the temple counters. It is now said that prasadams from other temples would also be subjected to the test and expiry date would be issued by the food safety department.

It is important to mention here that norms and conditions of food safety authority with respect to many parameters must be followed by the food handlers who make these prasadams. These food handlers have received training for this purpose. In the state of TN as many as 36,565 temples are being administered by this HR & CE department.

The FSSAI license for panchamirtham prasadam would be got in another ten days of time and it was confirmed by R. Jaya who is the commissioner of this HR & CE.
