National Anthem is still played in the Cinema theatres in Chennai

It is known that cinema theatres in Chennai and in the state of Tamil Nadu have been playing national anthem before the start of the films. On 9th of January 2018 Supreme Court said that playing national anthem before the starting of the film is optional until the inter-ministerial committee decided on this issue further.

It is revealed that cinema theatres in Chennai and in Tamil Nadu are playing national anthem before the start of the film even now and it is now said that the theatres have taken wait and watch approach on this issue. Whether to play national anthem or not the apex court had left it to the choice of the theatre management is known.

SPI Cinemas is highly popular chain of multiplexes that is doing superbly in Chennai, Coimbatore and also in other states. A representative from this SPI Cinemas spoke about how the management had discussed about playing national anthem or not. The representative also said that playing the national anthem was continued in SPI Cinemas as the people who come to watch the films did not oppose to playing national anthem before the start of the film.

Situated in Chromepet in Chennai is Vetri theatres and is very popular and many people come to this theatre to watch their favourite movie. It is now said that national anthem is being played before the start of a movie as the management of this theatre preferred to gauge the situation.

It must be noted that Coimbatore based Krithika Cinemas as well as Madurai based Ambiga Cinemas are also playing national anthem. Owner of the Chennai based Abirami Cinemas Mr. Ramanathan expressed his views regarding this and said instilling patriotic feeling in the minds of film goers is important and he has got a role in that.

Mr. Ramanathan also spoke about how there was not any opposition from any member in his association in playing this national anthem.

Advocate of High Court Mr Suresh shared his thoughts and said fear and tolerance in the politics might be the reason for the theatre owners not able to decide on playing national anthem or not. Later a representative of SPI Cinemas said there was no external pressure.

Famous Tamil actor R. Parthiban spoke about how there was no clarity in the verdict of the SC and that could be the reason why theatres are playing national anthem before the start of the film now.
