Recently the Tamil Nadu state government has increased the prices of tickets in the buses and this has created many issues for the public who use bus for their daily transport. It is now said that this increase in the bus fares has made many people to take up trains as their means of transport. Suburban trains are now in huge demand as more people in the Chennai city and in neighbouring places travel in these trains.
The switch from buses to trains is high and that is shown in the increase in the purchase of monthly season tickets by the people. This was later confirmed by the initial data of Chennai division of Southern Railways. It is clear that during 10th January to 26th January 2018, there was an increase of 7.95 lakh passengers when compared to the seven day data taken during the previous year. The Southern Railway has got additional revenue of Rs 1.96 crores when compared to the year 2017.
One important piece of information is in the seasonal ticket passengers and an increase of 5.56 lakh was noticed. According to an official, revenue of Rs 14.6 lakh was got and this is more than the amount got during corresponding time mentioned above in the year 2017.
Revenue amount of Rs 1.81crores was got from 24 lakh additional passengers who do not have season ticket. It must be noted that the UTS mobile app had steady growth and played its part in the bookings during the above seven days and this was high when compared to the bookings during the same seven days in the previous year.
Revenue of Rs 1.64 crores was got from 5.78 lak additional passengers who used this UTS mobile app facility. Passengers also used the services of ATVMs or Automatic Ticket Vending Machines and revenue of Rs 31 lakh more than the previous year was got through this from 2.06 lakh more bookings.
