Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, adopted the Ahimsa system to fight for freedom-he was shot dead by Nathuram Godse on 39th January 1948 at the Delhi Birla Mansion Gandhi Samithi gardens.
Mahatma Gandhi was born as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on 2nd October 1869 at Porbandar to the parents Karamchand Gandhi-Puti Bhai.
Gandhiji’s name was the 1st pronounced name in the list of the fighter who took up the cause of freedom. He was successful in his endeavour and won freedom for the country, thus earning the title, ‘Father of the Nation’.
His approach was known as ‘Satyagraha’ which paved the way for the country’s freedom. Further, it was the guiding light to other nations who aspired freedom.

Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on 2nd October is being celebrated throughout the country as ‘Gandhi Jayanthi’/
His death anniversary is observed as Martyrs’ Day.
As a commemoration of his supreme sacrifice, Gandhi Mandapam and a museum are located in the Chennai Guindy area. Another Gandhi museum is located in the building (built during Rani Mangammal period) in Madurai. Another Gandhi Memorial has been set up in the Kanyakumari coast where 3 oceans join.
