The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing dry weather conditions for quite some time now. In fact, the entire month of January has remained rain-free for the state barring a couple of days.
The only time the region recorded some spells of rains were between January 9 and 11. Even during this time, the state could not record any significant amount of rains.
Even now, rains are expected to remain in the backseat over the state of Tamil Nadu. So much so that the weather will remain dry throughout the week. These conditions are likely due to the absence of any weather system in proximity of Tamil Nadu.
However, the state of Tamil Nadu is likely to witness a fresh spell of rains around February 4. These on and off showers are expected to continue till February 6.
These rains are expected to remain confined to the southern and central parts of the state. However, North Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai may also witness isolated light rain.
This rain episode is expected to occur due to the formation of a trough from Coastal Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka. As the weather system will not be very strong, the intensity of rains will remain between light to moderate only. Thus, heavy showers are highly unlikely during this period.
Usually, rainfall amounts reduce to some extent in the month of January. Meanwhile, February witnesses even lesser rains. In fact, dry weather saga begins February onward and continues until March. It is only during the month of April when some respite is seen in the form of Pre Monsoon showers.
