According to Mr Kulshrestha General Manager of Southern Railways, there would be a new train service operating between Thoothukudi and Kollam soon. It is clear that the safety clearance to run this service would be expected in a month. It must be noted that newly converted broad gauge line between New Aryankavu and Edamon in the Tiruchendur- Tirunelveli. Tenkasi- Kollam section has caught the attention of many and officials are now waiting for the safety clearance to operate this new train in this section.
It is important to mention that on Tuesday, 6th of February 2018, Mr. Kulshrestha inspected the Thoothukudi- Vanchimaniyachi-Virudhunagar-Madurai section at Thoothukudi and he shared his thoughts.
Mr Kulshrestha spoke about how CRS or Commissioner of Railway Safety has finished safety inspection and speed trials and how diesel locomotive was utilized for this purpose for trials in the 22 km line between New Aryankavu and Edamon.
It is now confirmed by Mr. Kulshrestha that in just a month the safety clearance to operate train services in this section would be got and that would be superb.
He also spoke about how he would consider the demand of daily train services from Thoothukudi to Kollam. It must be noted that in the past there were some demands from the Thoothukudi District Railway Passengers Welfare Association regarding this train.
Mr S. Anantha Raman who is the Chief Operational Manager of Southern Railways expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how he and other officials were aware of the long pending demand to run train services between Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi bypassing Vanchimaniyachi station. It is known that this would reduce the travel time by 30 minutes.
It is important to note that this southern railway with its headquarters in Chennai is one of the 17 zones of Indian railways. It was established in the year 1951.
