A village present near Dindivanam has been attracting many devotees is known. In this Mayilam village is the popular Lord Murugan temple that is situated in the top of a hill. It is worthy to mention that this was the village donated to Brahmans and Sthalapurana has confirmed it. It must be noted that this temple’s architecture is different from the architecture of other Lord Murugan temples.
On the Coramandel coast the temple at the hill top is connected to village and there is a veera saiva Mutt in this coast or Bomayapalaiyam. Agrahara is the name of the street that leads to mutt
It is said that in this place Asura Surapadsma’s rule was brought to an end by Lord Murugan and this Surapadma requested Lord Muruga to accept him as his mount.
Lord Murugan asked Surapadma to meditate in this place by taking the form of a peacock or mayil on the banks of varaha. The asura asked Lord Muruga that he wanted to dwell forever and his wish was granted by Lord Murugan.
Pommayapuram Mathathipathi was involved in the construction of the temple on the top of the hill. Administration of this temple is being done by the mutt located at the foot of the hill is known.
One superb feature in this temple of Lord Murugan is the presence of a tank and it is 1000 years old. By foot step or by means of a vehicle the devotees would be able to reach the temple located at the hill top. Devotees from many parts of Tamil Nadu visit this superb temple on the panguni uthram festival and this festival is held in the months of March and April.
From morning 7am to 12 and then from evening 4pm till 7pm this temple is opened for the devotees to have darshan of Lord Murugan.
