It must be noted that this woman who had this procedure done on her has been suffering from asthma for the last 40 years. This health issue has caused her many difficulties in her life as she would become breathless also.
This procedure conducted for asthma issue might be good news for those suffering from this health problem as for many years these asthma affected people depend on powerful steroids as well as inhalers. The side effects from the above mentioned are depression and thinning of bones in the body is known.
It is important to note that bronchoscope was guided by a doctor into the windpipe of the patient and this helped the doctors to get view of the air passages.
Heating of the air passages up to 65 degrees by means of a catheter was carried out and therapeutic radio frequency energy was utilized for 10 seconds so that muscle in the airways get shrunk and do not swell during asthma resulting in breathing issues.
According to pulmonologist Dr Narasimhan of Apollo Hospitals, airways are no longer prone to constriction. He also spoke about how the patient would hereafter have few attacks than before.
Dr Narasimhan further explained that this procedure would not be able to cure this asthma issue but it could give great relief for those who could not manager this issue with drugs.
