Chennai’s Ranjit Pratap’s Car wins Post War European Classic Car in this year’s 21 Gun Salute

21 Gun Salute is an event where the owners of  Vintage cars from all over India assemble in Delhi and based on very strict criteria their cars are given awards. Among the various categories Chennai’s Ranjit Pratap’s Car Volvo 122 Amazon, won the  Post War European Classic Car of the year. It has also been supported by FIVA (Federation  International Vintage Association).  

The first entrant from Chennai was Mr. T T Raghunathan of TTK fame who participated in the Cartier show in Delhi.  Thereafter car enthusiasts like Mr. Sankar Sundaram, C S Ananth, Sundeep Reddy and RanjitP ratap have been participating in such events. Over the last two years Ranjit Pratap has participated in the Cartier show held in Hyderabad last and the 21 Gun Salute at Delhi. Mr. Ranjit Pratap has had some success in the 21 Gun Salute by winning the Runner’s Up position for two of his vehicles last year in the 21 Gun Salute.

This shows that the old car enthusiasts from our city are creating a mark nationally with their restoration work.  Madras Heritage Motoring Club is conducting yearly car rallies and shows which has motivated many car lovers to join this most exclusive car collectors club.  The Government of India is giving incentives and motivating car lovers to embark and display Heritage Motoring through museums and other such exhibitions. 

Over the years the restoration of heritage cars have taken the centre stage in India.  It is equal, if not a notch better to the international restoration work done by professional restorers around the world. Bombay, Delhi and Kolkata, in the sequence of order have been excelling in the restoration work of  Vintage and Classic Automobiles. Of late old car enthusiasts from South India have also been making an entry into these international shows.
