The popular actress Sridevi, who had acted in films in many languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, passed away suddenly due to a sudden cardiac arrest while attending a marriage function in Dubai.
Sridevi belongs to Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district. Her father Ayyappan was an advocate. Sridevi entered the film industry at the very young age of 4. She acted as the child God Muruga in the Tamil film, ‘Thunaivan’.
Sridevi made her debut as a heroine in ‘Moondru Mudichu;, a film directed by the famous K. Balachander. This was the start of a long journey in her film career. She won 6 Filmfare awards and the Tamil Nadu state government award for her Tamil film, ‘Moondram Pirai’.
Sridevi has acted with all the popular heroes and actors in all major languages including Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal, Rajinikanth and the leading Telugu. Kannada, and Hindi actors.
After reaching a peak in Tamil films, she also acted in Telugu and Hindi movies and won acclaim. She married the Hindi film producer Boney Kapoor. Sridevi continued acting in films like English Vinglish and Puli. Recently, her movie in Hindi ‘Mom’ was released and ran successfully.
Her death has created a huge vacuum and is an irreparable loss to the Indian film industry.
