Perambur in Chennai is hogging the limelight now. It is now said that the 70 feet road here has got many potholes and these create lots of problems for the public.
The latest news that has now come out is elevated concrete lids of storm water drain manholes or SWD on the 70feet road in Perambur is creating problems for the riders using this road. It is now said that these raised manholes lids cause accidents on the 500 m stretch and that is really sad. Linking southern and northern areas of north Chennai this road is called as Siva Elango Road.
It must not be forgotten that three years back this Siva Elango Road was developed as a model road and this road comes under the opposition leader Mr. Stalin’s Kolathur constituency is known.
According to social activist Mr. Sreedharan a resident of Periyar Nagar, civic body covered the road median with plants when this road was laid 3 years back. He spoke about how the median was fitted with lights and these lights have not been working for 2 years plus the road being neglected totally.
A three foot deep pond here causes worry as the road gets stagnated with the water from this pond. Mr Rahul who travels on this road regularly shared his thoughts and said at the time of heavy rains the road get flooded with water and this causes huge problems for the public using this road.
The persons using motorcycle would not be able to use this road during heavy rains and they had to take longer route. Mr Rahul spoke about how the portion near the pond must be raised.
Just a year back raised storm water drainage manholes lids came up in the middle of the road and since then it has been causing many problems for the public.
Relaying of this road would be done in another 2 months of time and this was confirmed by an official belonging to civic body. This official further said that aligning of new road along with protruding SWD lids would be done soon.
In Perambur locality 50 year old underground sewerage pipelines are being replaced with new ones. Siva Elango Road would also have its pipeline replacement work soon and then a new road would be built.
Social activist Mr. Sreedharan expressed his disappointment and said for more than 6 months the civic body has been promising to take up the pipeline work but it has not been carried out.
