Sankaracharya Jaynedra Swamigal passes away

Kanchipuram Sankara Madam Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, who had been admitted to the hospital for treatment, passed away today (Wednesday, 28th February) and attained Sidhi.

With complaints of breathing difficulties, he had been admitted to the private hospital located near the Sankara Madam. He had been suffering from breathing problems for the past several days. He had a heart attack today morning and was admitted to the hospital.

Within a few minutes after admission to the hospital, he passed away without responding to the treatment.

He was born as Subramania Mahadeva Iyer on 18th July 1935 at the village of Irulneeki in Thiruvarur district.

He was 84 years of age. He assumed the post of ‘Ilaya Peetadhipathi’ (Junior Pontiff) at the Kanchi Madam at the age of 19, He assumed this post on 22nd March 1954 by Sri Chandrasekhara Saraswathi Swamigal.

Later, he assumed the charge of the Kanchi Sankara Madam as its 69th ‘Madathipathi’ in 1994.

With his profound knowledge and eminent priest-ship, he was quite respected as an authority. He also made strenuous effort to solve the Ayodhya issue.
