Caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis this TB or Tuberculosis is an infectious disease affecting many. Though this disease is said to affect lungs mainly it also attacks other parts of our body.
People with this TB have many symptoms such as cough, blood in sputum plus others like weight loss, fever etc and they must be treated as soon as possible so that their lives could be saved.
The news is by the month of April, Chennai based BCG vaccine laboratory is having plans to restart manufacturing of Anti-Tuberculosis vaccine for the children. It must be noted that a decade before, this manufacturing unit was shut down due to issues regarding manufacturing practises. According to officials it is now said that this vaccine would bring down the cost of the central government universal immunisation programme by up to 50 percent and that is awesome news.
For sterility tests the Chennai based government run laboratory has sent 6 batches of vaccine to Kasauli based Central Drug Laboratory.
The good news is these 6 batches were subjected to internal quality tests and three have passed these tests. For other three remaining batches these tests would be done and reports would be out in three weeks of time.
Based on the reports the Chennai lab would be able to get new and fresh commercial manufacturer licence from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.
Dr. H.G. Bramhne who is laboratory director spoke about how after getting new license production of as many as 500 lakh vials of the vaccine would be possible and that would be more than two-fourth of what India needs.
It is sure that the cost of ten dose vial would be less than Rs 25 and that would be 50 percent lesser than the vaccines got from private manufacturer.
It must not be forgotten that in the past an attempt was made by this lab to manufacture this vaccine but it was not successful.
