Schools play an important role in the lives of students. Apart from the education the kids learn many things like friendship, behaviour etc in the schools. It is known that many students study in corporation schools but these students don’t involve in other co-curricular activities.

Greater Chennai Corporation is doing its work in making the students belonging to corporation schools to take part in the co-curricular activities.

It is now said that this Greater Chennai Corporation has roped famous persons plus members of the public so that these persons would be able to share their knowledge and experiences in VTF or Volunteer for Teaching programme and that is superb piece of news.

Students also need some break from their routine studies so that their minds would be fresh and active. Under the guidance of the people who volunteer under the programme the students are encouraged to take up classes in music plus dance etc.

The surprising piece of information is corporation schools in Adyar zone have taken up this programme on pilot basis and in the evenings this programme is conducted. It must be noted that Adyar zone includes Adyar, Kotturpuram, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Velachery etc.

An official belonging to corporation of Chennai expressed his thoughts and said people belonging to the same locality are encouraged to take up as there won’t be any burden of travelling for them.

It is known that English language plays crucial role and it is now said that spoken English classes are given importance and is most sought after. The official further threw light on how the classes for the students were organised according to their demands.

The official highlighted that NGO ‘Voice of the People’ has been playing huge role in this regard and the project has joined hands with this NGO. In as many as 25 schools belonging to Adyar zone there are 65 volunteers and this project was first started in the month of January.

Coordinator of VFT, Charu Govindan expressed her thoughts and said that it was neighbourhood based programme. She also spoke about how there were many requests from students, teachers plus parents regarding yoga, character building and value education. A schedule is chartered for the volunteers depending on their requests and this was confirmed by Charu Govindan.

It is superb to mention that great bond develops between children and volunteers and this bond would be fantastic for these children to do many great things in the future years.
