The news that anganwadi workers would be monitoring kids in the five districts including Chennai has been the talk of the town now.

It is known that these anganwadi workers in TN State keep check on the poor children till now. From the month of April onwards they would be monitoring all the kids belonging to the age groups 0 to 6 in 5 districts and that also includes the city of Chennai.

It must be noted that centre asked the state in appointing ICDS or Integrated Child Development Services as nutrition monitor. As many as 1000 households would be taken up by single anganwadi worker and this worker would visit every household once in 6 months time to check the child’s nutrition progress.

Portable devices would be given to these workers so that mapping of their work would be carried out by centre and local interventions would be enabled.

It is revealed that a supervisor in Delhi would be playing huge role in this regard by accessing the software with all the parameters. This supervisor then would interact with anganwadi worker and beneficiary to guide them on nutrition intake improvement. Then the state officials play their part by accessing the central server with all the data and dash board.

Field workers would upload dietary intakes and health updates of the children and later supply of food grains as well as supplementary nutrition would be done daily. This would be possible by the software. It is important to note here that in periodic reports only information and data regarding nutrition supply is got from the states and from Union Territories. As a result of this monitoring ICDS implementation is very difficult.

By the year 2022, stunting of children belonging to age groups o to 6 must be brought down from 38.4 percent to 25 percent and this is the objective of National Nutrition Mission.
