This news would bring huge relief and happiness for all those who are involved in the construction works in the state of Tamil Nadu.

It is now clear that WRD or Water resources department have received approval so that as many as 40 new sand quarries would be opened in Tamil Nadu.

As a result of the above mentioned news, the sand crunch situation would be eased out. According to the officials it is now said that the last week of March or first week of April would be crucial because as many as 21 quarries would be opened.

It is important to note that 3 quarries each in places like Thiruvallur, Vellore and Villupuram would be opened.  As many as 8 quarries along the Cauvery belt would be opened plus places such as Nagapattinam and Cuddalore would have 2 quarries each.

One important piece of information is at present TN receives 1500 loads of sand in a day but the total requirement is 20000 loads per day. There would be an increase in the loads received by TN once 21 quarries start functioning.

Sourcing sand for Chennai city would become easy than before and this was confirmed by the river sand agents and the members of sand lorry associations.

Mr Yuvraj president of TN state land lorry owners association spoke about the advantages of having quarries. He spoke about how in the past sand was transported to Chennai from Trichy, Chidambaram etc. He also mentioned about the sand quarry that would soon be making its presence felt at Uthukottai near Chennai and said prices of sand would come down.

It must be noted that at present the price of river sand per 200 cubic feet or one load is Rs 26000 and this would go down once 21 quarries are opened.
