Starting from 1st of June digital meters would be replaced by smart meters

The news that digital meters would be replaced by smart meters beginning from 1st of June 2018 has been the talk of the town. For procuring as many as 10 lakh smart meters Tangedo would soon be entering into an agreement with EESL or Energy Efficiency Services Limited.  

Beginning from 1st June 2018 these smart meters would be making their presence felt in all those premises that consume more than 200 units of power in a month.

It is now said that at nearly 80 percent of the consumer premises digital meters have being installed currently and new smart meters would be replacing these digital meters soon.

Some of the advantages of smart meters are it reduces meter readings, reduces errors due to data entry plus it also reduces the cost and plays role in removing the need for manual meter reading.

It is amazing to mention that these smart meters could enable utilities to reduce their AT &C or aggregate transmission and commercial losses. Billing inefficiencies could be sorted out by the smart meters.

Another piece of information is smart meters when connected by means of web based monitoring system would play important role in reducing commercial losses of utilities, increase revenues plus it also does its role of crucial tool in power sector reforms. It is now brought out that these smart meters would be connected to servers and would work like a mobile phone operator and these new meters would cost Rs 3000 for Tangedo. Installation of these smart meters for the people would be carried out free of cost.

As per a senior official belonging to this Tangedo, in the next 5 years Tangedo would settle the total cost of these smart meters. Once smart meters get installed visit of Tangedo employees to each premises of the consumers would be stopped.
