The wide-spread news regarding another impending storm like Ockhi in South Tamil Nadu is confirmed only as only a rumour.

The cyclone Ockhi formed during last December over the Bay of Bengal and caused havoc and massive damages in the South Tamil Nadu districts of Kanyakumari, Nellai, and Tuticorin.

The fishermen who ventured into the sea at that time disappeared altogether.

In this connection, there has been a recent widely spreading news that another cyclone like Ockhi is set to attack the Kayakumari district again. This was seen in all popular social networking media such as Facebook and Twitter. This news caused endless anxiety and agony to the resident people in the above areas.  However, it is recently confirmed that this is only a rumour and not a fact.

In his official page on the Facebook, the Tamil Nadu Weatherman has remarked:

‘The present low-pressure format is a weak one. At the best, it may intensify into a depression zone. However, it will not cause any harm as done by Ockhi. So, this is a false news.’

However, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that the low-pressure zone formed over the Kanyakumari coastal region has transformed into a depression zone and is drifting towards the Lakhdiv Islands.

S, the fishermen from Lakhdiv Island have been warned not to venture into the sea However, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has not mentioned anything about this low-pressure zone being as harmful as Ockhi.
