For those couples who are going to get married soon here comes a piece of news that would make them happy. On Wednesday, 13th march 2018, inspector of registration Mr. J. Kumaragurubaran announced that Aadhaar number is not important for registration of marriages. In the circular issued by this inspector of registration it is confirmed that insisting on Aadhar number must not be done by the sub-registrars.

According to the Hindu Marriage Act it is known that marriages must be registered properly. The above circular has now put an end to the confusion regarding Aadhaar number for registration of marriages.

It must be noted that a circular dated September 2017 has been responsible for the confusion as few sub-registrars have been asking compulsory Aadhaar in the registration of marriages.

Many newly wedded couples faced issues from the sub-registrars as they insisted on the Aadhaar card though the circular ordered officers to consider Aadhaar as one of the photo identification proofs and not as an address proof.

Presence of other identification cards is very important now and these cards must be provided by the couples to get their marriages registered and Aadhaar card is not compulsory. This was according to the new clarification.

Inspector for registrations Mr. Kumaragurubaran also gave instructions to sub-registrars regarding death certificates of the parents of the newly wedded couples and directed the sub-registrars not to seek death certificates of the parents of the couples.

It is important to mention that the couples must write ‘Late’ before their parents name in case of their parents not being alive.  The name and address of the applicants must be scrutinized carefully by the sub-registrars and this was mentioned in the circular.

To register for the marriages the consent of the parents was not required and this was confirmed by this inspector for registrations.
