K. M. Mammen Mappillai, born in the 28th of November, 1922 and was brought up by a prosperous Syrian Christian Family in Kerala. He finished his college graduation from the legendary Madras Christian College. Initially K. M. Mammen Mappillai started a toy balloon manufacturing unit in Chennai, then Madras, in the year 1946. By 1952 it was altered into a tread rubber manufacturing company and K. M. Mammen Mappillai named it as MRF (Madras Rubber Factory).

A stead-fast progression of the company in the two decades from the commencement of the establishment, lead to a quality rise up on international acclaim of its products. The Company became INR 30 Billion net worth enterprise.

K. M. Mammen Mappillai was the first Industrial person to receive the honor of Padmashri from the Central Government, for his contribution in Industrial development and Quality excellence competing world giants of Rubber Manufacturing.

In 2001 MRF Tyres won the JD power award for the first time and throughout the time it developed many manufacturing units all over India. On the entertainment level MRF introduced the world famous Sachin Tendulkar’s batting insignia.

MRF is the 12th largest tyre manufacturing company in the world. Some of the MNC competitors of MRF are Bridgestone, Michelin and Good Year. Several attempts were made to grab the MRF through financial enforcements of the market but MR. Mappilai held the pride of his company on all the financial storms.
