T. Nagar or Thyagaraya Nagar is a very important place in the Chennai city and it is now making news. To improve the safety of the pedestrians plus moving vehicles in this T. Nagar it is now said that the Chennai city corporation would be playing its role. This Chennai Corporation would soon be redesigning busy junctions in T. Nagar plus also redesign select roads in this area for the above mentioned reason. This was confirmed by the officials of Chennai Corporation.
Under the Smart Cities Mission, popular roads such as Prakasam Road, Usman Road plus other roads like Burkit Road and Arcot Road are among 21 streets chosen to be taken up for the project that would cost as much as Rs 59.69 lakh.
According to an official it is now clear that NMT or non-motorised transport policy would be given a push by means of Chennai street design project and that would be fantastic.
This official hinted that as many as 46 streets in Chennai were selected and these streets would be redesigned as complete streets. Presence of wider footpaths plus other amenities would be available in these 46 streets.
He further added that before designing a project, road junctions and alignments would be taken into consideration. It must be noted that the future mobility, standardisation of specifications for junctions and pedestrian crossings would also be taken into account.
This project would be taken in four packages and consultants to prepare detailed project report or DPR would be selected by the civic body soon.
