Chennai is a metropolitan city with huge population.  There are many hospitals present in Chennai and these hospitals give superb treatment for the patients. It is now revealed that this city of Chennai is regarded as cheap medical tourism hub.

It is superb to note that the government hospitals in Chennai offer quality intensive care units plus neo-natal care. The pre as well as post operative care facilities in these hospitals in Chennai are fabulous for many people. Many rare surgeries are being conducted in these hospitals and these have helped many people.

The medical students from many medical colleges like MMC, KMC and SMC plus from Adyar Cancer Institute and Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospitals etc have done tremendously and have played huge role with their contributions. The surgeries are conducted free of cost in Chennai for those people having annual income below Rs 72000. Patients are given free treatments not only in government hospitals but also in many private hospitals here and that is superb piece of news.

Under CMCHIS or Chief Ministers Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, treatment for patients is done totally free and many cancer treatments, transplants, cardiac operations etc are done for the people.

It must be noted that the above mentioned scheme applies to 11government plus as many as 70 private hospitals belonging to city of Chennai. There are more than 25000 beneficiaries now.

It is surprising that bypass surgery is done in other states at a minimum cost of Rs 50,000 is totally free for Tamil Nadu and it covers surgeries plus medications and regular checkups etc.

Dr. K. Kolandaisamy, director of public health, expressed his thoughts and said Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Scheme has been magnificent and in the last two years as many as 25,698 pregnant women received amount of Rs 21.76 crores.

He also highlighted that under this scheme the pregnant and lactating mothers of age 19 or more would get amount of Rs 18,000 for first two deliveries and this is done to provide optimal nutrition.

Dr Ruban project director spoke about how Chennai operates ‘108’ free ambulance service. He also said ‘104’ helpline gives free medical advice and assistance to the people.
