There are many temples in the villages of Tamil Nadu and these temples have priests who conduct pujas etc is well known.
The news is village temple priests in the Tamil Nadu would be trained in both Tamil as well as in Sanskrit so that they would be able to perform pujas plus other daily rituals connected with the temples.
On 6th of April 2018 as many as 100 priests belonging to village temples would be coming together in Salem to undergo training. These village temple priests come from different casts and have their age between 18 and 55 is known.
According to Mr. P. Vasu Temple Priest Welfare Association, the village temple priests would be trained to perform archanai and abishekam to the deities plus they would also be conducting other rituals namely annual rituals of the temples. He also spoke about how the present training refresher course would make the priests to adopt uniform system of performing archanai and abishekam.
Mr P. Vasu further added that the training would be in Tamil language but the priests would be trained in such a way that they would be able to do archanai in Sanskrit language also. As prescribed in the sacred texts these priests would be taught to carry out the rituals. It is worthy to mention that these priests do not belong to the community of Brahmins.
The lack of time was the main reason behind not including yoga and suryanamaskaram during this session but it would be included from next year onwards. This was also confirmed by Mr. Vasu.
