Chromepet is a very important residential locality in southern part of Chennai city and is grabbing the attention of many now.
The residents belonging to this Chromepet are protesting now. It is now revealed that relaying a bus route road in the Hasthinapuram locality without milling the bitumen surface was the main reason behind the protests against the officials of Pallavaram municipality.
It is now brought out that a group of local residents obstructed a contractor appointed by municipality as he was involved in the relaying of Old Hasthinapuram Main Road because bitumen top was not milled. The procedure of laying road was against the directions of the High Court of Madras.
Mr. V. Santhanam who belonged to the Chromepet locality expressed his feelings and said milling was very important and it must be done before relaying road.
He later spoke about how the chief justice of Madras High Court has clearly mentioned about the milling of roads before relaying. Many patchworks on the badly damaged areas of the road stood out.
It must not be forgotten that on 9th of March the high court’s first bench had observed that relaying roads without the process of milling was unscientific in nature. The road heights get increased if relaying roads without milling was carried on and this is not acceptable.
Mr. Santhanam later said how contractor relented when residents threatened to stage a dharna. The contractor also agreed to stop the work until the problem was sorted out with the municipal officials.
The road contractor named Sundar has become the centre of attraction for many in this locality. Sundar spoke about how municipality officials instructed him to apply patchworks on the road.
The contractor highlighted the fact that he got this tender for Rs 30 lakhs and he had to obey the orders that were issued to him. Patchworks application was done as the road did not have major damages and this was confirmed by the municipality official.
The municipality official explained repairing the damaged portions on the road made sense and he also said there was no need to excavate the portion of the road that was not damaged.
