On the occasion of the Tamil New Year Day (Saturday, 14th April), the special Darshan and the sitting session at the famous temple of Thiruvannamalai of Lord Arunchaleswarar has been cancelled.
Today, 14th April, being the 1st day of the Tamil calendar month of Chithirai, the temple corridors were opened early in the morning at 3.00 AM. Special abhishekhams are to be performed on the main deities of Lord Annamalaiyar and His Consort Unnamalai.
After the special abhishekham, the event of ‘pal perukku’ will be performed and the deity of Sri Sammandha Vinayakar being adorned with a silver shield and special prayers are to be performed.
The Sivacharyas of the temple will read the new Tamil Almanac of the new year – known as Panchangam - and announce the details of the scheduled of festivals to be performed during the new Tamil Year of Vilambi.
Special arrangements have been made for the larger number of devotees expected to arrive at the temple and have a darshan of the Lord. As larger crowds are expected on this special occasion, the regular special darshan and sitting session have been cancelled today.
