In a study undertaken by the Central Ocean Research Centre, it has been established that with excessive bacteria infected sea water, bathing in the Marina beach would be harmful to the body health.
An extensive research activity was undertaken by this centre regarding the extent of pollution in the sea water in the Chennai Metro city.
The research was undertaken in the most popular 5 beaches thronged by the public in the Chennai Metro City – Marina, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Ennore, and Kovalam. 192 samples were taken for thorough testing and research.
The research established that the sea water has been highly polluted with bacteria and germs which can cause serious harms to the physical health.
As the untreated effluent waters are released in the 2 rivers of Adyar and Cooum which merge in the sea, it is established that these effluents have pollute the sea water to a heavy extent.
This highly polluted sea water, when bathing, can cause digestion problems, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach ache, and other physical complaints.
