TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has granted permission to use cell phones and the internet during flights. Earlier, this facility of mobile use and internet use was blocked. Now, this rule has been revoked and permission to use cell phones and browse the internet during flights is allowed.

TRAI has further informed that the special rules and regulations for this will be created and after joint interaction with the airlines, the facility of using cell phones and the internet in flights will be arranged for the passengers.

In the 1st Phase, this facility will be introduced only in domestic flights.

Subsequently, based on approval from other countries, the facility will be introduced in international flights as well. Meanwhile, it has been announced that the facility is allowed even in the international flights when the flight is on the Indian skies.

As per the existing rules, the flight passengers need to switch off their cell phones before the flight takes off. They can switch them on only after the flight lands.
