City policeman dies while stopping a brawl

In a sad incident, a city policeman was clubbed to death by a drunkard. Special Sub-Inspector Kathiresan arrived at a tea shop in Valsaravakkam when he learnt of a brawl there. Veeramuthu, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, was asked several times by the policeman to put down the club that he was holding and leave the place, but Veeramuthu did not oblige. When Mr. Kathiresan turned away for a moment, Veeramuthu hit him on the head with a club.
The 49-year old policeman was rushed to a nearby clinic after which he was shifted to private hospital in Nandambakkam where he succumbed to his injuries.
