The central Minister of State with independent charge of Railways, Rajan Gohain, inaugurated the 2tier Uday Express train service between Kovai and Bangalore on Friday, 8th June.
While addressing the inaugural function, the minister informed that with the introduction of this new train service, there will be industrial growth in both cities. The toilets in over 66% of the 6300 coaches under Southern Railway have been converted into bio-toilets.
Action will be initiated to commence train service between Madurai and Mettupalayam. After the completion of the renovations works in the railway stations Veerapandi and Pudhupalayam, action will be initiated for the trains to stop there for the facility of the passengers. Similar activities will be initiated to take up the renovation of the Kovai and North Kovai Railway Stations.
The central Minister of State, Pon. Radhakrishnan, while addressing the gathering, informed that Rs. 2548 Crores have been allotted for the Tamil Nadu Railway projects in the current financial year. During the reign of the previous government, double-tracks were laid for a distance of 33.8 km. However, under the BJP government, double-tracks have been laid for 99.5 km. Generally, the state government has to allot funds for these projects. However, considering the present financial burdens of the Tamil Nadu state government, the central government has allotted the whole required funds.
During the last 4 years, 43 new trains including the present Uday Express have been introduced on Tamil Nadu. It is worth noting that between 2000 and 2014, only 388 km of electric traction was made. However, over the last 4 years, 538 km of electric traction facility has been completed. Further work covering an additional 308 km electric traction facility is in progress.
The location to set up a new bus-port matching the airport standards is under the selection process. Around Rs. 1,5 Lakh Crores have been allotted for the Highways development including the circular roads covering Kovai, Salem, and Trichy.
Southern Railway General Manager R. K. Kulshreshta, Salem Railway Region General Manager U. Subba Rao, members of parliament A. K. Selvaraj and A. P. Nagarajan and BJP State General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan participated on this inauguration.
Uday Express
Uday Express will start on all days except Mondays at 5.45 AM from Kovai and will reach the Bengaluru (KSR) Railway Station by 12.40 PM via Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Kuppam, and Krishnarajapuram.
It will start from Bengaluru at 2.15 PM and arrive at Kovai at 9.00 PM.
Fares and facilities
The fare for Kovai to Bengaluru is Rs. 610. The fare for Salem to Kovai is Rs. 345. The fare for Salem to Bangalore is Rs. 450. 10 coaches with 2-tier seating facility is available in the train. Out of this, 3 coaches have 104 seats with dining table facility and 120 seats are available on 5 coaches without dining table facility. Further, mini-dining table, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, GPS devices, and the toilets with the latest facilities are also available.
