Airport Authority of India (AAI) will soon begin the operation of the new integrated terminal for both domestic and international passengers. A tentative time mark of middle or end of July was announced by the authorities for the public opening of the terminals. The expansion work of the airport is considered to be a major re-alignment and construction after the new domestic and international terminals were commissioned in 2013.
The new construction being a part of phase 2 expansion of the airport is estimated to cost around Rs 2000 crore. AAI mentioned about the completion of the project within four years after the commencement. AAI reports said the plans to invite Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for the foundation laying ceremony of the planned expansion.
Old domestic terminal was laid down for the new expansion and the whole demolition process started in the month of March. Then AAI finalized a contractor to build the new integrated terminal. The new terminal will increase the capacity of peak hour zones of the airport by 1000 and 48000 with respect to domestic and international wings.
Also the multi-level parking lot construction on either sides of the airport metro rail station and special taxi exit are planned and will be executed under the phase 2 development project said one of the officials of AAI.
