The latest news is a master complex is being created in the famous Todhunter Nagar near Saidapet for the government staffs by TN government and it would have as many as 1800 homes. It is now said that after demolishing the existing 464 flats under the TN Government Rental Housing Scheme the above mentioned would be constructed.
According to the official sources, the implementation of the proposed complex would take place once the land from PWD as well as from technical education is acquired. This proposed complex would have housing plus other amenities for the government staffs and it would be superb. Action has been taken to dismantle 464 flats and notices have been given. An alternative accommodation has been provided in Thirumangalam.
To build stilt plus 19 floor building that could house as many as 1800 flats by acquiring PWD land, a proposal has been floated. This land is adjacent to TNGRHS site is known. Acquiring of 4750 sq m of land from PWD would be done by the state housing board and would be compensating its 5239 sq m area with the transfer of 48 TNGRHS flats. PWD has also proposed an 18 metre road near the soon to be demolished 464 flats. For rebuilding church as well as a mosque, land is being acquired. Not only that a play ground of technical education department would also be acquired for this project.
According to an official source it is now revealed that the play ground would be shifted to TN Slum Clearance Board area in Perumbakam. The beneficiaries belonging to the institutions have shifted to Perumbakam and Thoraipakkam in the last one year. Recently a meeting was held with the top officials belonging to the three departments. In that meeting there were discussions to work out plan regarding transferring lands from PWD and technical education to TNHB. There were also few talks about shifting of the play ground area of technical education to TN Slum Clearance Board.
It must not be forgotten that previously a government order or GO was issued by the state government to demolish 174 TNGRHS flats and to build 504 TNGRHS flats. TNHB has approved the necessary financial sanctions and tenders are under scrutiny. One important point to be noted is TNHB has done superbly in building 25,849 residential units under the TN Rental Housing Scheme.
It is now said that the TNHB is planning to raise amount worth Rs 682 crores by selling as many as 1779 residential flats under the self financing scheme.
