The officials of the Chennai MTC have informed that 345 new buses will be added to the current fleet including 100 new mini-buses.

As no new vehicles were procured by the Chennai MTC over the last few years, more than 50% of the currently operating buses have outlived. The seats and mirrors in several buses in various routes are seen in torn/broken condition. The automatic doors do not function in most buses and the ceilings are heavily damaged.

This situation has put the travelling public to severe hardships. Meanwhile, 500 new buses were allotted to the state transport corporations. The fact that not even a single bus was allotted to Chennai MTC caused a bitter disappointment among the passengers. However, the officials expressed their positive hopes that allotment of new buses will be made to Chennai MTC when the subsequent lots of new buses arrive.

The higher officials of the Chennai MTC explained in his regard that as per the allotment originally made on the new buses, 345 buses including 100 mini-buses are to be given to Chennai MTC.

The officials expected that the new buses will be handed over in a month’s time and will be immediately pressed into public service. Gradually, the old buses will be taken off service.
