Recently state transport department made many heads turn when they flagged off as many as 515 new modernized and luxury buses in the state of Tamil Nadu. The latest news is some of these buses have developed technical issues or snags and this has made many transport staffs to complain about these news buses regarding their construction. The higher officials belonging to the transport department wants to communicate the feedback to the manufacturing company so that these technical issues could be sorted out.

It must not be forgotten that earlier in this month of July, 515 new buses including luxury and sleeper class buses equipped with toilet facilities were launched by the state government. The break downs as well as frequent brake failure in some of these new buses had caused great worry to the passengers. This was as per the reliable sources.

According to a senior mechanic belonging to Kumbakonam transport region, these new buses have high level device of revolutions per minute or RPM. These new buses differed in this aspect when compared to the old or existing buses. This would lead to high air pressure and the outlets of RPM would hit the chassis. This would result in breakdowns. It is said that there are two or three such breakdowns in these new buses every week. He was of the view that these new buses must be constructed in accordance to the state road infrastructure. The transport department has been advised by the union members regarding wasting of tax payer’s money in the name of new sleeper class buses.

Labour Progressive Federation or LPF, general secretary, Mr. Shanmugam expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how he was happy regarding government move to procure new buses. He also spoke about the fact that he was not happy regarding the maintenance of these new buses. He highlighted the importance of proper tender process and said the transport department must go through it. He wanted the manufacturing company to return the amount allotted for building buses.

Additional chief secretary, transport, Mr. P.W.C. Davidar, expressed his views and spoke about how all the new buses are operated properly and how the building of bodies and chassis are manufactured at separate places which could result in slight technical problems. He later spoke about how the transport region officials have been instructed to communicate regarding issues for sending feedbacks to the manufacturing company. It is now brought out that soon all the buses would hit the road.
