Chennai’s water reserves running low

The growing decrease in water in reservoirs around Chennai is starting to cause concern. The Veeranam tank, situated in Cuddalore district, has less than3% of its overall capacity. The tank apart from the reservoirs at Poondi, Red Hills, Chembarapakkam and Sholavaram supply water to Chennai city.
Although residents of the city have not yet been affected, water supply to commercial establishments and educational institutions have been decreased slightly.
However, the Chennai Metro Water officials are hopeful after the release of Krishna water and the opening of the Nemmeli Desalination Plant.
