Anna University and University of Madras can offer only four long-distance programmes

The recent update from University Grants Commission (UGC) circularized the news about acclaimed universities of Chennai, Anna University (AU) and University of Madras (MU) are eligible to offer only four long distant programmes for the academic year 2018-19. University of Madras is one of the oldest institutions of Tamil Nadu and Anna University with 530 affiliated colleges has a pride of being the Asia’s biggest technical university. With the latest distant education update will surely affect thousands of students aiming for distant studies of their favorite courses.

Out of 97 distant education courses only three courses were recognized eligible from MU and only one course (MSc computer science) from ten distant learning programmes of AU was selected for this year 2018-19. It can levitate certain agitation among students where the educational body itself trying to degrade the enthusiasm of students to get proper education. Educational experts and students expect a quick remedy to sort out this new issue and encourage more distant education system for the welfare of the country as a whole.

UGC mentioned the approval of proper regulatory authorities in offering courses such as MBA, MCA, Bed, Hotel Management and Tourism as the main reason for mass filtration. University graded I and II in the autonomous category are allowed for the distant learning programs under UGC regulations.

Many faculties have moved to regular stream distressing the distant education coaching. Now only few faculty members are there for any subject except Politics and Public administration said one of the officials of MU.
