British Council to celebrate Madras Week 2018

As part of the 379th birthday of Chennai, British Council is all set to celebrate the Madras Week 2018 where it will be hosting exciting events to create awareness about Chennai and its culture. The events will connect audience through arts by focusing on the city, its history, its past and how Chennai has grown in all its glories.

Book launch

For those who are interested in English Literature, Culture Studies, Translation Studies and Tamil Literature, can attend book launch of:

Volume 1: Culture, Language and Identity

Volume 2: Language, Culture and Power
 
It will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Continuing relevance of translation as a tool for intercultural exchange’.
 
Time: 4.00pm to 5:30 pm

Open to all (children below 18 years to be accompanied by adults/parents)

Storytelling performanceTo know more about the genesis of Madras, Srividya Veeraraghavan –founderof Story Train will give a storytelling performance on the birth of Madras. She is known to encourage the oral storytelling art and practices to be used in classrooms for teaching and corporate for effective employee management program. The performance would be followed by a talk on the influence of Madras on the evolution of entrepreneurs.

Time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
