On account of infrastructure work in Chennai Airport the main runway will be shut down from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The schedule will be carried on till the month of October when the completion of the work is expected from the Airport Authorities.
Officials of the airport informed about the runway shut-down and also mentioned that the flight departures and arrivals will not be affected with this infrastructural works. All the aircraft movements will be handled in the secondary runway told the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The aircraft body has begun the developmental work in the main runway from Sunday.
The closure of the main runway is to construct rapid taxi exit ways for increasing the exit speed of aircrafts. A taxiway called Bravo has been introduced by AAI enabling the high speed arrival of the aircraft in the runway.
With this new development of taxiways the flight delays and congestion at the airport will be reduced considerably said the sources of AAI. At present the runway time for an aircraft is 70 seconds which will be brought down to 60 seconds after the new runway development construction.
From the month of November the runway will be closed between 10 am to 6 pm told one of the officials of AAI owing to the runway works. The work will be temporarily halted in case of an emergency or control congestions of the multiple aircrafts landing in the alternative route.
