The whole service lane of Marina Beach will be converted into a paid parking zone with the official trail run effective within a few weeks. The charge per hour for four wheelers are fixed as Rs 20 while parking charges for the two wheelers fixed as Rs 5 per hour. The same kind of designated parking spaces are identified in Elliot’s beach and Shanthi Nagar for installing paid parking centers.

Though the paid parking zones can create uniformity in the arrangement of vehicles in the congested parts of the beaches Visitors will certainly be disturbed with the beach going into a monetizing place that will destroy the freedom to enjoy the nature. Private companies are picked for this parking project that will most likely disrupt the visitors of the beach from poor economic background.

Chennai Corporation process this plan of parking management system as a part of public-private partnership with a consortium of service providers. Toorq Media Services, Skidata India and S S Tech are the private firms roped in for the parking management project.

Detecting sensors and cameras are planned to install all through the parking zone for identifying vehicles in terms of management system and security concerns. A dedicated app will also be introduced for the payment and the parking owners get notifications for the expiry of time. Vehicles that are parked beyond the allocated time will be charged a penalty.
