Very soon, an Automatic Fining System will be launched by the State Government with the aim of reducing the total number of road accidents occurring on GST Road, says M.R. Vijayabhaskar, the Transport Minister. This system will surveille lane discipline and vehicles that rash drive.
Addressing an award function by the MTC, the minister stated that the total number of accidents in the city are soaring as there is substantial development in the highways and more number of high speed vehicles are seen. In terms of the total number of accidents, our state (Tamil Nadu) is ranking No. 2, he added. Hence, an AFS technology is believed to be of great help, he adds.
Mr. Vijayabhaskar also added that the technology is likely to be launched at the 280 km stretch between Chengalpattu and Tiruchi during the first phase following which the rest of the highway networks will be covered. A sum of Rs 25 crore is alloted towards installing the AFS technology. The traffic violators will be monitored with the help of state-of-the-art CCTV cameras and fine collection or license suspension shall be done as an automated process.
The award ceremony
The award ceremony where the minister addressed was for MTC employees. There were 3911 MTC employees including bus drivers, bus conductors and technicians who were rewarded for notable fuel conservation and driving without accidents. Very soon, electric buses shall be made possible. About 80 such electric buses are eyed on for purchase by the MTC department.
