In many government higher secondary schools teacher posts are vacant now. The latest news is to fill up these vacant posts on temporary basis (for 6 months) government has issued orders. By this order the teachers would be recruited by PTA or parent teacher associations.
As per a circular issued by the department, there are 1474 vacant teacher posts in the state of Tamil Nadu. The school education department had decided to fill these vacant posts by PTA or parent teacher association. This would be until fresh recruitments are made by TRB or Teacher’s Recruitment Board.
The circular also stated that the board had initiated steps to fill the vacant posts and the process is time consuming. For the benefit of the students studying in class 11 and class 12, the vacant posts should be filled immediately. It is revealed that the teachers posts for 11 main subjects such as Tamil. English, Biology and zoology must be filled. It was mentioned in the circular that the posts are to be filled for a period from September 2018 to February 2019 on contract basis and an amount of Rs 7500 would be paid to the teachers. As per a government school teacher it is clear that after transfer counselling to fill posts of headmasters in government high schools, most of the posts became vacant just 2 months ago. This teacher later spoke about how 80 % of HM seats were filled with PG teachers. Many government school teachers were against this move of filling the vacant posts with temporary teachers. They highlighted that poor planning of the department was responsible for the vacancies present now.
A teacher spoke about how after revamping the syllabus, 3-day training was conducted by the department to make the teachers understand the teaching methodologies and techniques adopted in the revamped syllabus. This training would not be provided for those teachers selected through PTA. Another teacher spoke about how difficult it would be for the fresh teachers to understand and teach the students. These new temporary teachers would be fresh from college and would not have the much needed experience to teach the students.
