After the Supreme Court’s decision to rule out the mandatory online Aadhaar verification for banking and other identification process, UIDAI has asked the service providers to go for offline system. With this offline system bodies in need of individual ID verification of the customers can still collect Aadhaar based KYC process without any authentication and biometrics involved for the completion of the service.
Enrollment and updating services in banks, postal offices and other government premises should not have Aadhaar based online e-KYC verification as per the court’s official order. But central government carries on the aadhaar based verification enabling the offline mode. According to a latest survey more than 60 crore people have Aadhaar card as their only identity proof and so the offline usage of the cards will be continued said the UIDAI authorities. Currently 13,000 centers have been opened by banks and postal offices for the verification and can further be added depending on the need.
Offline verification systems such as e-Aadhaar and QR code based process will help the service providers to ensure the whole enrolment and updating features of their businesses. This involves the secured privacy of the card holder’s information even without revealing the 12 digit number.
Unique Identification Authority of India CEO, Ajay Bhushan Pandey mentioned the government body’s idea to encourage the offline verification system in spite of the court’s verdict regarding the removal of Aadhaar based verification scheme for banks and postal offices. HE also added that Aadhaar based ecosystem will always sustain in Indian enrolment scenario combined with finance related bodies such as banks and postal accounts.
