Rotary Club of Madras (RCM) organised “Group of 1929”, a new initiative comprising of Rotary Clubs that were chartered in the year 1929 across the globe. The inaugural meet of the 6 day event was held recently in a grandiose manner. RCM organised this get- together with the intention of uniting all the Rotary Clubs formed in 1929 under one banner to promote Fellowship and World Understanding.
Rotary Club of Madras, the first Club in South India formed by Rtn. James Wheeler Davidson was chartered on 19th July 1929. It is the third oldest Club in the country, next to Calcutta and Bombay. As February is being observed as World Understanding Month, RCM came up with the idea of hosting a get-together of all Clubs which were chartered in 1929 worldwide.
Diplomats, Consulate officials and guests from around the world including USA, UK and Europe participated in large number in the inaugural meet of “Group of 1929”. Rotarians representing all the Clubs that were formed in 1929 shared thoughts on enhancing various programmes of the several Rotary Clubs. “Group of 1929” was aimed at exchanging ideas in making a difference in the various community projects. Over 150 Rotarians and guests from India and other countries took part in the 6 day event.
