Deepavali is around the corner and it is one of the important festivals in India. It is well known that during deepavali many go to their native places to celebrate the festival. In Chennai during the deepavali season there would be more traffic on the road. It is now said that to reduce this traffic in Chennai city during deepavali festival the transport department has prepared a new chart of routes.
Places in Chennai such as Perungalathur and Tambaram would be full of people during the deepavali festival and in these places both government as well as omni buses pile up. There would be lot of vehicles on the stretch between CMBT to Perungalathur and these vehicles would be moving very slowly. An official expressed his thoughts about this traffic. He spoke about various complaints received regarding the heavy traffic and the plans to ease the traffic this time.
He later explained that on October 3rd, 4th and 5th people would be going to their native to celebrate deepavali with their family, relatives etc and south bound fully filled buses would not pass through Tambaram and Perungalathur. The buses would take the Maduravoyal bypass road and Vandalur Outer Ring road or ORR and reach Vandalur. He then spoke about how the half filled buses would go to Tambaram and Perungalathur and pick up the passengers.
According to the official it is clear that those passengers who have already booked their tickets through online to board buses from Tambaram and Perungalathur should go to temporary bus stop at Urapakkam(CMDA premises-Kilambakkam) to reach their destination on the above mentioned days. Recently Madhavaram Mofussil Bus Terminus or MMBT was opened for the passengers and it grabbed many eyeballs. The Andhra Pradesh buses would start from this MMBT. This was another chart issued by the transport department to lessen the traffic during the deepavali season.
It was confirmed by the release that the buses passing through ECR would leave from the KK. Nagar bus terminus and the buses which go to Tindivanam and Vikravandi would leave from the Tambaram Sanatorium Arignar Anna Bus Stand or MEPZ. From the Poonamallee bus stand there would be buses going to places like Vellore and Kanchipuram. Likewise buses going to Tiruvannamalai would start from Tambaram railway station. There would be more number of buses going to places such as Trichy, Coimbatore, Pudukkottai, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram etc and these buses would leave from the Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Bus Stand in Koyambedu.
This move to reduce the traffic during deepavali season was appreciated by motorists and activists. The motorists said it was not possible to ride bike on the stretch between Koyambedu and Perungalathur during festival season and these alternative routes charted would ease the pressure of traffic.
