Recently there was a four day holiday due to navarathri festival on 18th, 19th October and weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and many people had great fun and enjoyed these holidays. The news that has emerged now is on Monday, 22nd October 2018, there was heavy traffic on the Chennai- Trichy National Highway or NH. This heavy traffic had impacted GST roads as well as arterial roads etc and police personnel were busy regulating the traffic. Passengers felt lot of inconvenience due to the heavy traffic jam from Chengalpattu toll plaza to Perungalathur. The vehicles moved at snail’s pace despite of many police personnel regulating the traffic.
The shocking piece of information is the stretch between Chengalpattu and Tambaram was full of vehicles and for one to two hours there was no movement. A passenger expressed his displeasure and spoke about how usually it would take 45 to 50 minutes to cover the distance of 27 kms on this stretch and how it took 3 hours yesterday to reach Tambaram from Chengalpattu. He lamented that he was not able to go to his office as he reached his house around 11 am only.
As per the police officials, everything started in Chengalpattu toll plaza, Maraimalai Nagar, Urapakkam, Guduvanchery and Perungalathur. They later spoke about the road works that are going on and how this also added to the traffic woes. Finally some police officials threw light on the fact that crew of the omni buses do not obey the traffic rules and they stop the buses in the middle of the roads leading to traffic issues.
