News about people getting affected by dengue has been increasing every day. It is well known that the dengue is caused by aedes aegypti mosquitoes and these mosquitoes breed in the tyres, pots, containers etc. The city corporation has seized more than 7.6 tonnes of waste including these tyres, containers and pots across 15 zones during the precaution drives. The main objective of this drive is to prevent the dengue causing mosquitoes from breeding,
On Tuesday, 23rd October 2018, deputy commissioner (Health), Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy made his presence felt in Madhavaram zone and this was done to intensify the anti-dengue drives. To prevent the breeding of mosquitoes, source reduction activities and fogging etc were carried out by the civic body workers. An official belonging to civic body spoke about how the health workers have been asked to carry out source reduction activities on war footing. The superb piece of information is nearly 1965 malaria workers carried out inspections in the 15 zones and these workers cleaned as many as 609 streets. The official added that as many as 83,808 breeding spots of aedes aegypti mosquitoes were identified and destroyed by the civic body workers.
It is important to mention that monitoring officers were appointed for each zone and these officers are playing huge role in activities like flood preparedness etc. Water stagnation is present in many houses and this helps in the breeding of dengue causing mosquitoes. Now awareness is created among residents to prevent water stagnation in their houses. A senior official spoke about how overhead tanks, buckets, containers and coconut shells must be checked and how chlorine must be added to the water present in the overhead tanks in houses.
Every day the conservancy staffs must visit educational institutions, offices plus hotels and cinema theatres etc and source reduction activities must be carried out. This was later confirmed by the official. A handbook on prevention of dengue was released by the municipal administration minister, Mr. S.P .Velumani on Tuesday. He gave instructions to the corporation officials regarding checking and destroying mosquito breeding grounds every day. He also instructed on checking drinking water supply for permissible chlorine levels of 0.2 PPM.
