Residents of Chennai city would be very familiar with the bus terminus in Broadway. This bus terminus is now making news. It is known that this Broadway bus terminus is one of the busiest in Chennai city because there are as many as 658 bus services running every day on 70 different routes. As many as 33000 passengers use these buses. The passengers are not happy with this Broadway bus terminus now. There are many issues present in this bus terminus and these are stinking toilets, chairs are dirty and these chairs are difficult to reach due to trash. One water tank serves both passengers as well as the staffs and hence drinking water is scarce in the Broadway bus terminus.

Broadway is the heart of Chennai city and the popular bus terminus in this place having many issues is highly disappointing. This was confirmed by a commuter belonging to Guduvanchery. He threw light on the fact that the bus terminus near his home is far better than this popular Broadway bus terminus that is used by many people. He then spoke about how the Broadway bus terminus has been poorly maintained. Speaking about the waiting area and walkways he said these are poorly paved. He then added that the lone water tank that is supposed to provide drinking water to the MTC crew members was used by passengers also.

A Tambaram based commuter spoke about how the space for the commuters has been reduced by the encroachments by the vendors in Broadway bus terminus. The area is full of vendors blocking access to the cement chairs. This has resulted in difficulties in sitting in these chairs. He finally explained his unhappiness regarding toilets present and said inspite of 2 toilets the people don’t use them and relieve outside only causing unbearable stink. Another passenger revealed that the presence of garbage on the platforms is also an issue.
