The famous and one of the most important festivals for Lord Muruga, Kanda Shasti, commences today (Thursday, 8th November) at the Lord Subramanya Swamy temple in Thiruchendur with the Yagasalai Pooja.
The temple of Lord Subramanya Swamy, located near the sea in Thiruchendur, Tuticorin District, is the 2nd in the list of 6 important temples dedicated to Lord Muruga.
One of the most famous and popular temples, devotees throng in large numbers to have Darshan of Lord Muruga. Among the various festivals celebrated in the Thiruchendur temple, the Kanda Shasti festival is the most prominent. It is traditional for a very large number devotees from the other parts of the state and other states to participate in this grand festival.
The Kanda Shasti festival is scheduled to commence today at 7.30 AM with Yagasalai Pooja. Subsequently, Deeparadhana will be performed at 10.30 AM. After this, Special adornment, Abhishekham, and Deeparadhanai will be performed on the deities of Lord Muruga and His Consorts Valli and Deivayanai.
The most prominent part of the festival, ‘Soorasamharam’, is scheduled at 4.30 PM on the seashore on 13th November.
Elaborate arrangements have been made with grand lighting facilities and staying arrangements have been organised with temporary sheds for the devotees visiting from other places to perform penance in the temple complex. Special arrangements for other faculties have also been made in the temple complex.
With the commencement of Kanda Shasti the whole city of Thiruchendur the temple wear a festive atmosphere for celebrations with very large-scale lighting arrangements.
