To reach their places of destination many people in the city of Chennai travel by MTC buses. It is said that the revenue got from these MTC buses were below. To overcome this issue of poor revenue, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has increased the number of cut services. As per the officials belonging to MTC, cut services in some routes have been increased.

There were complaints from many commuters regarding the time taken to get their required bus service. The commuters complained that they have to wait for long time to catch a bus to reach their places of destination. The sources have pointed out that ever since the transport department had hiked the ticket prices MTC has been facing considerable loss of revenue. The transport corporation is taking various mechanisms including operating cut services and increasing the ordinary buses. This was done to compensate for the loss of revenue. A conductor belonging to MTC spoke about how the cut services would pave the way for getting more revenue. He added that the selective routes that have high patronage must be used. The conductor cited the reason for loss of revenue and said bus passes were responsible for the loss and added that the government must stop issuing bus passes to increase the revenue.

The passengers were not happy regarding the cut services and they had put the blame on MTC. A regular commuter expressed his feelings and spoke about how there are only few direct buses now and how it was different from the past when there were many direct buses. He later explained how he took direct bus D70 from Ambattur Real Estate to reach Velachery and how there was more such buses in the past. He then added that the buses are being operated till Guindy now and not to Velachery. He lamented that he had to get down at Guindy and then take another bus to Velachery.

An official belonging to MTC did not agree and he spoke about how cut services were not increased on all days but only on the holidays due to high patronage during the holidays. He later threw light on the how passengers were very important and how they must not suffer. He finally assured that he would look into the problems and stop the cut services on certain bus routes. It is well known that MTC is an agency that is responsible for operating public bus services in the city of Chennai.
