The Weather Bureau has informed that there are prospects of heavy rain again after a gap of 10 days in the northern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
The northeast monsoon rainy season commenced on 1st November. Initially, it rained in the northern coastal districts and then in the delta districts and subsequently, in the southern districts.
Subsequently, the cyclone Gaja formed and crossed the coast across Nagapattinam on 16th November while causing severe damages in the Tamil Nadu delta districts.
Intense relief work is in progress on these districts after Gaja. Meanwhile, the intensity of the northeast monsoon rainy season abated slightly. Rain stopped in several places from 23rd November.
However, the rains resumed day-before-yesterday (29th November) in several parts of Tamil Nadu.
As at 8.30 AM yesterday (Friday, 30th November), a maximum rainfall of 7 cm has been recorded. Meanwhile, the northern district residents have been eagerly looking forward to the rains. There has been a compulsion to depend on the rainwater collection as the main source of drinking water in the coming summer days.
The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that the winds blowing from the east will intensify and the monsoon will get more intense from 3rd December. Hence, there are prospects of widespread rains in most districts from 4th December.
